Breaks your eyes
actually need.

Not all breaks are equal. Looking out the window helps — but stereograms work at the muscular level.

👁️

Ciliary Muscle Reset

Screen work locks your ciliary muscles at one focal distance for hours. Stereograms force a divergence shift, actively releasing that tension.

🧠

Binocular Vision Training

Solving a stereogram engages both eyes working together — a workout for the visual cortex that regular breaks simply don't provide.

Growing Catalog

High-quality stereogram images downloaded and cached locally. New images added by the community — contributions welcome.

Why are stereograms better than just looking away?

When you stare at a screen, your ciliary muscles — the tiny muscles that change the shape of your eye lens — stay contracted at a fixed focal distance (typically 50–70 cm). Over hours, this sustained contraction causes the familiar burning, heaviness, and blurry vision of Computer Vision Syndrome.

Simply looking away helps, but your eyes often re-focus on a nearby wall or window at a similar distance. Stereograms require parallel or diverged eye alignment — a focal state completely opposite to screen work. Achieving the "magic eye" effect actively stretches and resets the ciliary muscles, providing relief that passive breaks rarely match.

Additionally, stereograms stimulate vergence eye movements (the inward/outward rotation of both eyes), which are suppressed during normal screen use. Regular vergence exercise is associated with reduced eye fatigue and improved visual stamina.

Set it once, forget it.

Lives quietly in your menu bar. No configuration needed to get started.

1

Install & launch

Download the DMG from GitHub, drag EyeHeaven to Applications, and open it. It sits in your menu bar — always available, never in the way.

2

Configure your rhythm

Set how often you want short breaks (e.g. every 20 min) and long breaks (e.g. every 2 hours). Or keep the smart defaults.

3

Get a pre-break warning

A banner appears before each break so you can finish your sentence, then look away.

4

Take your break

Short break: close your eyes or look out the window. Long break: focus on the stereogram and let your eyes relax in 3D.

Installing from GitHub — step by step
  1. Open the Releases page and download the latest .dmg file.
  2. Open the DMG and drag EyeHeaven.app to your Applications folder.
  3. First launch — right-click the app in Applications and choose Open, then click Open in the confirmation dialog.
  4. If macOS shows "damaged and can't be opened", run this once in Terminal:
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/EyeHeaven.app
  5. To verify the download integrity, compare the checksum with the .sha256 file in the release assets:
    shasum -a 256 EyeHeaven-<version>.dmg

Expand the Stereogram Catalog

No code required. Add a JPEG stereogram to the Stereograms/ folder, update catalog.json, and open a PR. Catalog-only commits don't trigger an app release — it's fast and easy.
